Clinical Review of 26 Cases of Ventral Hernia

Abstract
Twenty-six post-operative incisional hernia patients were managed at the Seoul National Uni-versity Hospital during the period between December 1967 to December 1975 and following results were obtained.
1. Female predominated over male by 16: 10. 2. Nineteen patients were in 4th~6th decade.
3. Obesity were identified in 16 patients.
4. In 23 out of 26 patients, ventral hernia was discovered within one year after the primary operation.
5. The most frequent preceding operation was appendectomy, 8 patients, and the operation had been classified as emergency in nature in 22 patients (84.6%).
6. The most frequently used previous incision was lower longitudinal, 14 cases.
7. Operative repair was performed in 24 patients and. all were repaired with layer by layer closure of abdominal wall.
8. Recurrence was identified in one case and there was no mortality.
